A raised garden bed should be normally 8 to 12 inches deep. However, it depends on what you are growing and how deep the roots need to be. If soil drainage is poor, then going a little deeper can be beneficial
Definitely! They provide so much protection to your vegetables and make the area very manageable. They also look beautiful and give your garden a specific planting zone.
Pressure treated wood is the best type to use. This protects the wood form fungal attack. Treating the wood will also ad years of life to it.
For most people this will be grass base, but on top of this try and use clippings, leaves, wood chips, straw or other organic materials as a base. This will turn into a compost and will be excellent for your vegetables.
So you want to give the best nutrients for your plants but also protect the plants from rodents. So the best way to do this is mixing topsoil & compost mix on a 1:1 ratio. Make sure to mix it well. Lastly, a mesh wire just beneath the surface will protect your plants from wildlife.
